National Minimum Wage Changes – 1st October 2016
All NMW rates will go up from today and this is the last time that NMW rate changes will take effect in the month of October.
The new rates are as follows:
- the adult rate which is payable to workers aged 21 to 24 will rise from £6.70 to £6.95 p.h.
- the youth development rate which is payable to workers aged 18 to 20 will rise from £5.30 to £5.55 p.h.
- the young workers rate which is payable to workers aged 16 and 17 will rise from £3.87 to £4.00 p.h.
- the apprentice rate will rise from £3.30 to £3.40 p.h.
However, the national living wage (NLW), which must be paid to workers aged 25 and over, will remain at £7.20 p.h. The next rate changes are due to take effect on 1 April 2017 . These are yet to be confirmed but it’s anticipated that the NLW will be at least £7.64 p.h.
